Description
Bondtech Internal Filament Sensor Extruder
The Bondtech Dual Drive IFS extruder is a further development of the high-resolution extruder upgrade for the Prusa Mini.
Compatible with the filament sensor
The IFS extruder enables the integration of the new filament sensor in the housing of the extruder on the Prusa Mini / +.
However, the IFS extruder can also be used without a filament sensor. To install the filament sensor in the IFS extruder later, only a short assembly is required.
Hardened drive gears for processing abrasive materials
Hardened drive gears allow the use of abrasive materials that would otherwise wear out the gears of the original feeder.
Adjustable tension
The thumbscrew tensioner allows the user to fine-tune the pressure exerted on the filament by the drive gears. This gives you the opportunity to adjust the settings to your preferences and optimise them for the type of material used.
Quick release
In order to be able to change material in no time at all, simply operate the quick-release lever to release the tension and pull the material to be changed out of the extruder, keep it activated and insert the new material.
More choice of materials
The dual drive gears made of hardened steel allow working with common and abrasive materials.

Very good extruder, installation instructions all over the place
Rated with 4 out of 5 stars.
I have to say that this extruder works well, the installation procedure is still a bit confusing because BondTech still support the old (non-IFS) version and all of their documentation starts from that one. Eventually I found some youtube tutorials for the upgrade that were nicely detailed but the text instructions do need a bit of TLC.

Extrude well, instructions poor
Rated with 3 out of 5 stars.
The instructions are for the older generation version, that doesn't support the IFS.
As a result, either you need a brain (I lack one), or find a good 3rd party YouTube video to perform the installation, as the instructions are out of date.
I would recommend Bond tech updates their instructions for this version, it was frustraighting.
Once installed, so far I'm happy with it, better than the originalWas this rating helpful? (0) (0)

Better than the stock extruder
Rated with 4 out of 5 stars.
This is definitely better than the stock extruder but it can be very fiddly to get the tension of the gears correct. I find some filament works great with 4 turns as instructed whilst some get under extrusion and clicking.

Very good.
Rated with 5 out of 5 stars.
A high quality product! The embedded sensor is an excellent idea. If you’re using a Bondtech CHT or 3D Solex Matchless nozzle, be aware that it will begin to skip above 40 mm3/s. But that still allows an overall printing speed around 100 mm/s.

Great replacement
Rated with 5 out of 5 stars.
Used this to replace the standard extruder, just much smoother and its nice that it integrates the filament sensor into the body of the extruder now.
My mini is a jobbing printer for odd jobs that I don't want to make changes to the setting on my main printer. Its really great for switching backwards and forwards on different filaments like PETG to TPU and back again with ease :-)
